I think I’m in love with the Ace Cafe.

If you know me you know I love history, I love Orlando, and I LOVE motorcycles. This place is gonna have all 3 in one location.

Today I was lucky enough to get to go on the “Hard Hat Tour” of the facility.

I didn’t count the number of people who were there…but it seemed like about 30? I took this picture before it all got to going. We are in the lower part of the Ace Cafe. It is set for a late April soft opening. They say it should be ready for a hard open celebration about a month later.

If you have been around the motorcycle scene in central Florida anytime in the last few years you have probably seen some of  promotional material for the Ace Cafe. I first heard of them when I was at the American International Motorcycle Expo. That was about 3 years ago. So it’s been a long time coming. It took the developers so long to get the place to market because the  needs and problems associated with renovating a historic building.

The Ace Cafe is being created in the old Harry P. Leu building on Livingston Ave.

In a city that is NOT always known for taking care of its history it makes my heart warm to see these people showing love for this place.  The name Harry P. Leu is still left on the sidewalk in tile in front of the Livingston Avenue entrance.

One of the areas inside on the second floor is the old office of Harry P. Leu himself.  It will be restored to a “Mad Men” style of office.  There are other touches from the original use of the building. There is even an old safe that hasn’t been opened yet. The Ace Cafe folks say they are looking to get a safe cracker to work on it and hope to do something like a “Al Capone’s Vault” opening of the safe.

Okay… pics of the bar at the cafe are impressive. This one will be an outside bar with an awning for protection from the sun. I was there mid-morning and it felt great. I would have to believe the spot will do well.

The roots of the Ace Cafe go all the way back to 1938 in London. It is a HUGE part of biker lore. For a history of the cafe click the link below:

History Of The Ace Cafe

The Ace Cafe in Orlando will have a clock tower. This is what it looks like right now.

This helmet was on display today. The Ace Cafe has a deal with Bell Helmet. I liked it..but it was not for sale. Not today anyway.

And here is the Ace Cafe Model motorcycle from Triumph.  This one in Orlando is the second to roll off the line. I LOVE this bike. Lucky for me that, just like the helmet, it was NOT for sale. I can’t really be buying every thing I like in this place. I have kids to put through college.

I am excited about the prospect of the Ace Cafe opening in late April. I believe its going to be a really cool addition to downtown Orlando. I think it will become a target destination for all bikers. I can see it becoming a big part of Biketoberfest, and Bike Week, as soon as it opens.

Weather: GREAT weather if you like it warm. Today we hit a high of 87 at OIA. That is 7 degrees above normal. Tonight we have no rain in the forecast, and a low of 63. Tomorrow looks hot again with a high of 87. So far in 2017 we have yet to hit a high of 90. That could happen as early as Thursday.

Ride safe.

The weekend is upon us… and so is a line of storms. The wind is already wicked. As the cold front moves through this afternoon it will bring in rain, higher winds, and maybe even a bit of rotation. We are NOT set up for a huge tornado outbreak, but there is the possibility of an isolated tornado. We’ll keep you posted on Local 6.

In the meantime you can always track the radar on

Let’s talk about the weekend. After about 9 o’clock tonight, the dangerous weather will be over for Central Florida for the weekend. That is not to say it’s going to be perfect. Matter of fact, it’s still going to be windy, cool, and almost uncomfortable. Check out the weekend forecast:

It’s dry, but it’s not warm. That means the Nascar Bud Shootout at Daytona will be a little on the cool side. Race time is set for 8:10 Saturday night. My forecast is Temp 52, wind WNW 10-15… that’ s going to feel more like 48 to 45 degrees. Yes, it’s Daytona. No, you can’t wear your shorts. Dress for a chilly night.

Shuttle Launch: People are going to pack the coast for the last night launch of the Shuttle. Launch time is set for 4:39 a.m. Sunday morning. You can watch it live on Local 6 or you can see it live online at  The rain won’t be here to stop the launch. The wind is the main concern. My launch forecast is Temp 52, Wind NW 15 mph. The official forecast calls for an 80% chance of a GO. I think it will happen.

Super Bowl Forecast: Okay, kickoff is 6:30pm Sunday. Last time the Super Bowl was in Miami it poured rain. Not this time. This time it’s going to feel like fall. Here’s the forecast from our Miami site

Kickoff forecast is Temp 62, Wind N 5 mph. That’s excellent football weather. Not too cold, no rain, wind not a factor. I’m still torn over who I want to win or think will win. All along I’ve felt like this is the Colts game to lose. But maybe the stars are really aligned for the Saints. Injuries to the defense, Adam Veniteri is not playing, people talking trash about Manning. Could be a weird game. Maybe New Orleans does it. I don’t know. I do know that I LOVE the city of New Orleans, I adore the culture of Louisiana. I listen to WAY too much Better Than Ezra music, and I would wrestle you for beignets and a cup of Cafe Du Monde coffee. Basically my spirit is for New Orleans. But my head says “it’s Peyton Manning. You love Peyton… you know you want the Colts to win.”

Either way I’m watching the game until halftime, from my house, on Local 6. Then I’m into the studio for the late news after the cool new show on CBS called “Undercover Boss.” I’ve only seen previews of the show, but it looks good.

Gotta get lunch done now and get to tracking these afternoon storms.

Talk later,

What an amazing weather week we have had in Central Florida. Usually September is a time filled with Tropical woes, big time hurricanes or, at the very least, strong afternoon thunderstorms. This week has had none of that. Five years ago September brought us 2 hurricanes. Frances and Jeanne. September is also the month that brought Ivan and the killer Great Miami hurricane in 1926.  Right now my main area of concern in the tropics is still the leftovers from Hurricane Fred.

E. Atlantic

The folks at the Hurricane Center are giving it less than a 30% chance of making a comeback….but you can’t help but be impressed with the fact that it’s still there, still spinning, a week after it was declared dead. If it does come back to life it should happen on Monday.  The second area or wave is farther out there. That wave has a better shot of becoming Grace in the next 72 hours. We’ll be on it and keep you up to date over the weekend.

Now for really important stuff: Football. Friday nights games are a go. There may be a few small showers but not too much of a threat of lighting tonight. Overall its about a good as it gets for a Friday night in September. Game on.

Gator Gameday  Forecast….remember when Florida vs. Tennessee used to be the premier game of the nation? The bloom is off the rose in Knoxville. That showing last week against an average UCLA team was terrible. Crompton is a NOT a good quarterback. If you are lucky enough to have tickets to tomorrows game you should be able to enjoy the day without too much rain. There is a slight chance of a shower after the game starts, but it will be a passing shower not the day long rain you sat in last week. Kickoff temp. will be about 90….bottom line is you need the sunscreen and a little bit of rain gear. But dont look for the wash-away this week.

UCF is hosting Buffalo Saturday night here in Orlando. Game time temp will be 83 degrees, a risk of rain moving in from the south-east. Be ready for that before the game starts and another round after 8 p.m., Go KNIGHTS!

It’s lunchtime in Orlando….I’ll check in soon.

Have A Sunny Day!
